In celebration of this summer’s Olympics, TDF’s Yay Abe served up his first Yoodle (Youtube-doodle, FYI) in a dynamic, table-tennis inspired animation.
Commissioned by Youtube as part of their Olympic series, the TDF artist reimagined a high-energy table-tennis match in a playful comic-style creation.
“Our main goal was to recreate the energy of the game,” he says. “We wanted to have a static image that showcases a fun scene inspired by the fast-paced game. Using different scenes from the game and stacking each moment together on the canvas was our solution.”
“When creating the storyboard and because of its small scale size, it was more about getting a very complex scenario across as simple as possible,” he tells us. “It’s a very different approach compared to the creation of the key visuals as we have room to develop a more elaborate story while keeping the brand in mind.”
A new foray into creating for animation, Yay Abe took to it like a natural. “The way we depicted movement and action poses was great, they’re a lot more dynamic than my usual work,” he says. “It was a super fun one to work on!” – Always glad to hear it!
